Case Study: The Town of Mammoth Lakes, California

When the town of Mammoth Lakes, Calif., faced a lawsuit judgment three times larger than its annual budget, Zack Clement worked with the town to study what it could reasonably cut out of its spending and add to its taxation in order to pay the judgment over time.

On the first day of its Chapter 11 case, Mammoth Lakes filed a plan of debt adjustment based on this study, scheduled a confirmation hearing for day 60, made a deal at mediation on day 30, and concluded its Chapter 9 case by day 120.

As a result, Mammoth Lakes was able to continue serving its citizens with annual debt service payments based on what its elected officials believed it could reasonably afford.
